The academy have a strong entrepreneurship, social and new media component, technology development where these tools are used in the form of digital story telling. RLabs also provides the academy using innovative ways in its “undisciplined” training method using a “Play & Learn” approach. The academy also make use of a train the trainer approach by providing new champions for the local RLabs hubs.
The academy offers community members with a world class learning experience with a wide selection of courses. Annually up to 2,500 scholarships are made available to community members globally and RLabs have already trained more than 18,500 community members through their Academy.
The GROW Leadership Academy offers young people aged 18 – 25 with an extensive programme in community development, government, entrepreneurship, Digital Technology, social innovation and leadership. This offering is in partnership with founding members Given Gain, WooThemes, Silulo Technologies, GetSmarter and Web Growth. The GROW Leadership Academy also provides the young people with an opportunity for an internship and to start their own innovative businesses. The programme is currently being co-funded by USAID and DG Murray Trust. The GROW Leadership Academy are currently only being offered in South Africa with an expected Tanzania launch in 2014.
RLabs provides a wide variety of development programmes for enterprises, start-ups, non-profits and community organisations. These programmes covers areas such as Social Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship, Lean Start-up, Social and New Media, leveraging mobile technology for social change, social franchising and Community Engagement. These programmes are normally tailored for the specific participants and some of the RLabs clients have included World Bank, College of Cape Town and the World Health Organisation
